There are a few reasons why this might be happening...
Is your TV or plug-in TV device supported?
It is possible to cast from the CGX app to TVs or plug-in TV devices over Chromecast or AirPlay. If your TV or plug-in TV device doesn’t support Chromecast or AirPlay, you won’t be able to cast from the app.
Don’t have a supported device?
- Google Chromecast devices connect to your TV’s HDMI port and can be used to cast from the app to your TV
- Compatible Roku devices also connect to your TV’s HDMI port and can be used to AirPlay from iOS devices to your TV
Before buying any external device, we recommend doing thorough research to ensure the device is compatible with your mobile / tablet device and your TV. We know that purchasing an external device may not be ideal if your TV isn’t compatible, as it would involve an additional cost. However, we hope this helps as a guide to explore the options available to you and make an informed decision.
Are you casting from the app or mirroring your screen?
When you cast, you're instructing Chromecast or AirPlay to stream content directly from the source – in this case, the CGX app. This method is the best for quality because the content is fetched directly by the TV, reducing strain on your internet network.
Mirroring, on the other hand, uses your mobile or tablet as a mediator. Not only does your device stream the content, but it also has to relay everything visible on the screen to your TV. This double workload can put strain on your internet network, potentially leading to lags or disruptions.
Here at CGX, we recommend casting over mirroring. That’s because mirroring might be less stable because of the additional demand on your devices and internet network.
Are your devices connected to the correct WiFi network?
Both your handheld device and your TV device need to be connected to the same WiFi network. This is how they speak to each other in order to send the stream from the CGX app to your TV.
You can’t cast to your TV via mobile / cellular data. If your WiFi network is weak in a certain area, your device might actually be depending on mobile / cellular data without you realising. A good step would be to switch off mobile / cellular data on your device and trying again.
